Katharina Oelschlaeger

Who inspires you and why?: I have a strong desire to achieve my goals and high internal, self-driven motivation, but I would say my family and coaches inspire me. My family has always been my biggest supporter since I started playing soccer and still help me through every obstacle I go through. My coaches have always believed in my talent and drive and I am endlessly thankful for all the opportunities I have gotten so far and the support I get from coaches, players, and spectators.

Favorite soccer memory?: Winning the ASUN championship back to back in 2022 and 2023 and when I got recruited to play for Borussia Mönchengladbach at a tournament with only boys teams when I was 11.

Why did you choose Sioux Falls City FC?: My coach at FGCU inspired me to talk to my teammate and friend Taylor Thomas about possibly playing for Sioux Falls City with her in the summer. I was looking for a highly professional summer league team to get better and play with and against some of the best girls in the country. Sioux Falls City seems like the perfect match for what I am looking for and what the team stands for.

I started playing soccer in my hometown team with boys only at the age of 8. When I was 11 I transferred to the Youth Under 13 team of the professional club Borussia Mönchengladbach. After 7 successful years there I decided to start my academic and athletic career in the United States. In January 2021 I started playing for the Kansas City Kansas Community College where I was voted player of the year in both of my seasons there. In July 2022, I transferred to FGCU. After finishing my Bachelors degree at FGCU my goal is to play professionally, hopefully starting in 2025. My biggest dream is to become a professional soccer player and make soccer my profession.
