Joe DeMay

Title: Sporting Director

Biography

Joe’s soccer coaching career began almost the moment he stopped playing keeper after college and has continued for the last 33 years. He has coached at every level, from youth to high school, college, and WPSL. He spent 9 years coaching women at the D1 college level and 7 years as a US Soccer Development Academy Club Director. Joe spent several years on Ohio’s ODP staff and, additionally, the ODP Midwest Region staff. Joe’s legendary keen eye for talent served him well when he worked as a Talent and ID Scout for an NWSL team.

Joe earned the US Soccer A Youth license, their Academy Director license, helped design the course for the US Soccer National Goalkeeper license and holds the National Youth license. As a US Soccer Coach Educator, Joe now teaches the A Youth license course, the D license course, and the Grassroots license.

In his vast career, Joe is proud to have supported over 125 women in advancing to the collegiate level to continue playing soccer. He has had the privilege of playing a part in the journey of 7 women to senior national team play, 12 youth to their national team, and 18 women who have developed into professional players.

Off the field, Joe is married to his wife of almost 34 years, Sherri (our She-EO), and is the proud father of 2 grown daughters, Kate and Harper, who live in NYC and Seattle. He enjoys walking their 11-year-old toy fox terrier, Aksel, and reading books about football culture, history, and police procedural mysteries. He is at Sioux Falls City because, once upon a time, the Thomas family told him he signed a lifelong contract. He has never been one to read the fine print.
